ABOUT THE PROJECT
In cities with social and economic problems such as climate change, resource scarcity and demographic change, an integrated and holistic approach is needed to ensure sustainability. In this context, the Corporate Social Responsibility Association of Turkey (CSR Turkey) launched the “responsible Cities” initiative as part of CSR Europe’s “Sustainable Living in Cities” campaign.
The first event of the responsible Cities Initiative, the responsible Cities Conference was held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at Kadir Has University Cibali campus in Istanbul in collaboration with CSR Turkey, United Cities and local governments Middle East and West Asia Regional Organization (UCLG-mewa), World Academy of Local Government and Democracy Foundation (WALD), CSR Europe and Kadir Has University, under the auspices of The conference was held in two sessions, “cities and good example practices panel” and “cities and Development Panel”, to produce solutions for the sustainability problems of cities and to raise awareness on the importance of urban-private sector cooperation in this area.
As a result of the responsible Cities Conference, the need for private sector and local governments to develop a more common and holistic vision for urban problems was observed. In order to have this vision, more information needs to be made about why and how cooperation should be achieved, and awareness should be raised. In this context, the responsible Cities Initiative continues with interactive workshops, visibility of good sample practices, the responsible Cities Guide work and the responsible Cities Index work in order to create multi-stakeholder platforms related to this area in cities in the medium term, in cooperation with CSR Turkey and its strategic stakeholders.
